Plitvicka National Park is one of the oldest and largest
Croatian National Park as well as under
the protection of UNESCO since 1979. It is located in between Male Kapele and Pljesevice in Lika.
National Park Plitvice Lakes are situated on the
eponymous Plitvice plateau, between the mountains of Lička Plješevica (Gornja Plješevica peak 1,640 m),
Mala Kapela (Seliški Vrh peak at 1,280 m) and Medveđak (884 m).
Plitvicka Jezera are a unique natural phenomenon - seexteen picturesques lakes which are connected
by a number of cascading plitvice waterfalls.
Plitvicka National Park my be devided by visitors in two groups:
the Upper lakes and the Lower lakes. The Upper lakes are surrounded by lush woods and
connected to one another by a number of plitvice waterfalls,
the lower lakes are smaller, shallower and surrounded by lesser vegetation. The Lower Lakes,
meanwhile, hold caves and grottoes aplenty, as the lakes are surrounding by steep-faced cliffs,
and make for great adventurous exploration.
Plitvicka National Park is perhaps the most beautiful natural wonder with
the Croatian National park.
In addition to the numerous plitvice waterfalls,
a bevy of wildlife can be seen, including fish, frogs and a variety of bird species.
Special attractions at Jezera National park include the Veliki Splat,
a 100 foot waterfall surrounded by nearby boulders to which tourists have access.
